Cucina Stellata Continue Reset Keys — Fix & Workaround

Why Cucina Stellata Continue can wipe key progress, what the developer says, and how to finish keys and the secret route in one session.

Why did my keys disappear after Continue?

If you used Continue on the title screen and your key halves vanished, you are seeing behavior that Steam guides, player threads, and the developer all discuss—not a unique glitch on your PC alone. Continue advances your story save, but key collection is tied to the current kitchen session. Loading again from the menu typically respawns key pieces in the world even when you already grabbed them earlier in the same run.

The reliable fix is planning: finish the key locations hunt without menu reloads, then follow the secret ending checklist (insert keys, read letters, stay through credits).

What players report

Steam discussion “Tried to get all keys for ending in Continue and it didn’t work” (Oct 2026) describes a common pattern:

  1. Finish the game once without all keys.
  2. Choose Continue near the finale and collect missing halves.
  3. Reach credits again, but the three dresser locks stay empty and no keys appear inserted.

Another player in the same thread said they found all keys and letters on a first run yet did not get the secret scene after credits. Those posts are first-hand player reports, not verified reproduction steps.

What the developer said

Developer Lusidace replied on that thread (marked developer on Steam) with two clarifications:

  • Returning to the main menu or quitting and loading again puts keys back at their original locations, so you must collect them again in that playthrough.
  • Picking up all three assembled keys is not enough—you must insert each key into the dresser drawers (and, by extension, read the letters inside).

They also wrote that if those points do not match what you saw, it might be a bug they have not reproduced, and asked for more reports.

That reply is the strongest first-party statement we have. It frames menu reloads as expected key behavior, while leaving the empty-locks-after-Continue case open.

Continue vs quit vs a full new game

Action Story / cooking progress Key halves you already picked up Keys inserted in dresser
Keep playing (no menu) Saved in memory Kept until used on locks Kept
Continue after exit Restored Guides + dev: reset to world spawns Must redo insert + letters if pieces reset
New game Fresh run Fresh Empty

We have no official statement that Continue behaves differently from any other menu reload for keys. Community guides (including the Steam 100% Achievement Guide and independent write-ups such as Treyex) still tell players to avoid Continue mid-hunt because collected halves do not stick.

What usually still saves

Reports and guides agree meal progress and narrative checkpoints continue when you use Continue. What does not reliably persist is which of the six halves sit in your inventory unless you have already used the completed keys on the dresser. Achievement progress for The Soil / Seed / Fruit of Evil ties to reading letters, which requires opened drawers—see achievements and key locations.

  1. Start a run you can finish in one sitting. Publisher copy targets about one hour, and community guides report it takes longer if you hunt every key and the secret scene in the same run.
  2. During rounds 2–6, collect all six halves using key locations.
  3. Insert each of the three keys and read every old letter before the final stretch.
  4. Complete the Enigma sequences if you have not already.
  5. Finish the banquet, watch the epilogue, and stay through credits for the secret scene (secret ending).

If you already finished without keys, many players start a fresh run instead of chaining Continue attempts, because half progress may not carry the way story progress does.

When to report a bug

Consider posting on the Steam discussions if all of these are true:

  • You collected and inserted keys in the same uninterrupted session (no menu reload).
  • You read all three letters.
  • Locks or the secret scene still fail after credits.

Include whether you used Continue at any point. A 2026-10-28 Steam build shipped without public notes on keys (SteamDB lists file changes only), so mention your build date if you can.

FAQ

Does Continue keep key pieces in Cucina Stellata?
No, according to multiple Steam community guides and a developer post on the Continue bug thread. Collected halves return to their hiding spots when you load again from the menu, so you must re-collect them in that playthrough.
Is the Continue key reset a bug or intended?
Filthy Eden developer Lusidace describes menu reloads as resetting key locations by design, while still investigating reports where keys collected on Continue never appear in the ending locks. Treat post-credits lock bugs as patch-sensitive.
What progress does Continue still save?
Continue keeps story and cooking progress for the run. Guides agree it does not preserve which key halves you already picked up—you only keep progress if you insert keys and open drawers before exiting.
How do I avoid losing keys near the ending?
Collect all six halves, combine them into three keys, use each key on the dresser, and read every old letter in the same session without Continue. See the key locations and secret ending guides for the full checklist.
Did the October 2026 patch fix Continue keys?
Steam shipped a build on 2026-10-28, but no public patch notes mention keys. Player reports after launch still discuss Continue resets, so assume the behavior until an official note says otherwise.
